I Just Got Tagged

Dana at Sweeping Through Life  just tagged me.  I’ve never done this before so I think that it would be pretty cool. Here are the rules:

List 10 things that make you happy. Tag 10 other bloggers and link back to the person who tagged you.

  1. My hubby makes me happy.  We just celebrated four years of being together as a couple on yesterday.
  2.  Music – singing it, writing it, listening to it…
  3. Entertaining and planning stuff is so much fun to me.  I think that I love every element of it.  I am planning a shower for my friend right  now and am having the best time. Next up is a Mother/Daughter event for the spring.
  4. Talking to my mom on the  phone – we always have the best conversations and it seems like we never want to get off the phone.
  5. Girl Scout Cookies – specifically Samoas
  6. Blue boxes from Tiffany’s make me happy.  I believe this makes all girls happy.
  7. Pretty Nail Polish - Lately I love shopping for nail polish and finding different colors.
  8. Going on trips  – Whether short or long, I love to getaway.
  9. When people ask  me for help – especially when they reference The PeachPost.  That really makes me smile.
  10. Playing dress-up.  I love going into my closet and putting pieces together to make new outfits. It’s so much fun – especially when you have something new to work with.

Black History Moment

For the last black history moment of the month, I would like to bring attention to Mia Love. In 2009, she became the First African-American and first woman elected mayor of Saratoga Springs, Utah. Mia is the first African American woman elected mayor in the state of Utah.

The Alvin Ailey Show

This past Friday I had wonderful opportunity to go and see the Alvin Ailey dancers at the Fabulous Fox Theatre. I went with a group of ladies from work and someway somehow we were able to see a mini-show (1-hour long) for about $10.  It was an awesome deal.  I believe that the performance was geared toward children but it really didn’t matter to any of us.

The mini show consisted of two sets: one new (Uptown) and one old (Revelations). Uptown was very jazzy and choreographed by a former Alvin Ailey dancer.  Revelations  features negro spirituals and the dancers are dressed in church wear and hats, and at some point they wear all white for a baptism interpretation.

If you love dance and arts, then going to see the Alvin Ailey show is a must.  They usually come to Atlanta every February.  If you can, try the mini show.  Otherwise, plan an evening out and enjoy the amazing dancers of the Alvin Ailey dance company.

Spectators, Lurkers, etc.

Okay PeachPost readers, I want to hear from you. I get a lot of visitors, but most of you never comment.  So I am calling out all of you who are lurking around. Introduce yourselves and let me know who you are, where you’re from and anything else that you may want to tell me.

Bits and Pieces

This weekend was great.  It was busy but we had an awesome time. So here are the bits and pieces from my weekend. By the way, we had really nice weather and it was a first for us in a while.  Last weekend it snowed.

  • Friday - Alvin Ailey show with co-workers.  Lunch was at Einsteins with my girl, Shay. Sidenote: Thanks to Staples for the recommendation.  The food there is delish!!!  I stopped by to see my precious little Lexi (my friend’s baby) but she had a host of guests so Auntie  Aarika kept it moving.
  • Friday Night - Wings and redbox movie.  The movie was Madea Goes to Jail and it was not that good.
  • Saturday – I hung out with my hubby.  I wanted to eat outside so we chose Fellini’s and I went to Nordstrom to try on  these shoes (surprisingly comfy) so that I could buy them for sale online.  I procrastinated and they sold out. Marshall’s was on the list of places to go, so we stopped there and I picked up some new pillows.  Another thing that I can check off my list. We went to see our couple friend’s new baby, Little Warren, who is too cute.  Congrats Warrens!!!!
  • Saturday Night  – We were named Godparents for my cousin’s son whom we affectionately call Izzy.  We were so honored!
  • Sunday - We went to church, J put some food on the grill, I let the pup play outside and oh what a lovely day!!

Let’s talk about Kids

So last week I mentioned that J and I want to have kids, but we want to wait about three more years. Actually we only want to have one child.  It could be a boy or a girl.  I don’t really have a preference.

So what about you all?  Do you want to have children?  If so, how many? How long will you wait?  For those you that have kids, how long did you wait?

Black History Moment

Duke Ellington is the first African-American to appear by himself on a circulating U.S. coin.  Ellington composed more than 3,000 songs and received 13 grammy awards.

Circulating coins are intended for daily use, and commemorative coins marks special occasions. Jackie Robinson, Booker T. Washington, George Washington Carver and Crispus Attucks are African-Americans that  have appeared on commemorative coins.

My One Dollar Book

via Barnes & Nobles

I couldn’t believe my eyes because this book is usually $10, but I found it for $1.  I honestly don’t need it right now, as J and I have decided to wait a few years before we to try to get pregnant.   J says that I have pseudo baby fever.  I adore all things baby – baby clothes, baby pics, etc.  But I just don’t want to have baby right now.  My mom even teases me because we already have baby names picked out, but our plan is not to have a baby in the near future.

Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, the book seems to be pretty easy to read and educational.  There are a lot of things that I didn’t know about pre-conception and pregnancy itself –  so this book will be a good resource.  I don’t think that I will be reading it all once, because the info can seem overwhelming.  However,  I plan to go through the sections as needed.

Have any of you ever bought this book? Or any pregnancy books?  If so, what did you think about it?

New Shoes

I forgot to mention that over the weekend while shopping for J’s vday gift, I treated myself too.  I found some Bandolinos that were $10/pair at TJ Maxx.  If you need to stock up on a few pairs of shoes, then now is the time.

I also found a pretty popular book for $1, but warrants a post all to itself.  Stay posted to find out what book I bought.

Bits and Pieces

  • It snowed a lot here in metro Atlanta and traffic was a mess during rush hour on Friday.  I worked half a day and took the rest of the time to run some errands like picking the J’s vday gift and grabbing a few groceries.
  • Friday night,  the hubs and I eagerly awaited the broadcast of the opening ceremony that was announced to begin at 7:30 pm est, but it didn’t come on until 9pm est. During the opening ceremonie’s  parade of  countries,  I noticed a lady on the sideline dressed in all white with a baby bump. Little did I know that she is a fellow blogger who runs Good Finking. She is about six months pregnant and had the awesome opportunity to participate in the olympics. Congratulations, Kasia!!!!
  • Saturday was the day that J and I decided to celebrate Valentine’s.  We exchanged our gifts.   I heated up a delicious breakfast – french toast sticks (Aldi’s brand is the best) and smoked sausage.  We chillaxed the remainder of the day.  I mean we did absolutely nothing.  It was the perfect lazy day.  In the evening, J went outside in the cold and grilled us a few steaks as well as corn on the cob. It was delish.  The cutest part about dinner was the dessert. He bought us a little heart cake by Carvel.
  • Sunday was all about church.  Our services started a little late, due to the weather, but God was still glorified.  I went home and fried pork chops and served that with rice and peas.

So this is what J got for Vday
