A Case of the Babies

BellaJean

Lately I have been surrounded by all things baby.  I was invited to about 10 baby showers last year and a lot of my friends are having babies.  I love looking at baby clothes and shopping for baby things, but the hubs and I are waiting. We haven’t been married two years yet and there are so many things that we want to do before we grow our family.

I think that it’s funny that I’ve been thinking about my baby shower and how I want it to be.  Or that I’ve been thinking about how I want the baby’s nursery to be designed.  I will also admit to reading mommy blogs and coming up with baby names .

Anyone else having a slight case of baby fever?

Winter

I don’t know what you are doing this weekend, but I plan to relax and rest my voice so that I can sing on Sunday.  I’ve got a new song to sing and I am ready to let it out.  Here are a few Peach Links for you.

An Extra Hand:Project Update

Congrats to my friend Shay for exceeding her goal with An Extra Hand ProjectShay’s goal was to give 50 baskets, but she was able to give 57 baskets filled with toiletries to various women in Cobb County.  With monetary donations she was able to give additional bags full of travel sized toiletries. Shay received a great response for the 2009 Holiday season.  Hopefully you all can get in on the action for this year.

I’ve participated in this project for a couple of years now and thoroughly enjoyed doing the shopping for my basket.  It usually cost about $30 to buy all of the requested items.

If you would like additional information on this project, please email Shay (anextrahand08 at gmail.com).  She will be glad to hear from you and welcomes your support.

Haiti Needs our Prayers

Please pray for the country of Haiti. If you have not heard, an earthquake hit the country and caused massive destruction. Many lives have been lost and our prayers are needed. You can also make a donation by doing one of the following:

  • Text “HAITI” TO 90999 which will automatically donate $10 to the Red Cross Haiti Relief (this will be charged to your cell phone bill).
  • Text “Yele” to 501501, which will automatically donate $5 to the Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund (it will be charged to your cell phone bill).
  • Go to the  YELE Haiti website and submit a pledge.

Please Pray for those in Haiti.

Is it okay to skip the gift wedding gift?

So I have been to lots of weddings – some near, some far.  There have been a few weddings where I have not taken a gift.  Why?  Well there are different reasons.

  • If I sing at someone’s wedding and I do not charge them to sing, then I consider that as my gift to the couple.
  • If I am in the bridal party then I consider my participation in their wedding as my gift to the couple.  After all, you’ve already spent money on the dress/tux, hair and nails.  Not to mention you have probably spend money on the gift for the shower and/or bachelorette party expenses.
  • If I have traveled a long way to the wedding and spent lots of money in car rental, hotel room, food, etc. then I consider my presence as my gift to the couple.

Wedding etiquette says that you have a year to give a gift to the couple.  But what do you think?  Are there times when it’s perfectly okay to skip the gift?

Reader Question – Natural Hair Products

Reader Faye Mac writes:

“I was wondering if you had any recommendations for natural hair products. I’m newly natural and am still kind of fumbling my way around…let me know your thoughts.”

Natural Hair Products
Here are some of my faves:
  • Suave Coconut Conditioner is used for co-washes.  A co-wash is simply washing your hair with conditioner. You don’t want to leave this type of conditioner in your hair because it will dry it out.  You can use cheap conditioners for your co-washes – brands like Suave and V05.
  • For comb-out and detangling I like to use Herbal Essence Hello Hydration.  This product has done quite well for me and it smells really good.  It is okay to leave this type of conditioner in as it is moisture-based.  I also like Tresemme Moisture Rich.
  • Deep Conditioners are great for minimizing damage to the hair, restoring shine and it also strengthens the hair. Right now I am using Pantene Relaxed and Natural Deep Conditioning Mask.
  • You always want to put a leave-in conditioner in your hair so my go to product is SheaMoisture Shea Butter.  Leave-Ins are important because they add moisture to the hair and also it helps eliminate flakes from styling gels. I also use DevaCare One which provides a light hold. I’m not a big fan of the DevaCare but other people love it.  I have a big bottle of it so I will continue to use it  until it runs out.
  • As far as styling cremes or for curl definition I really like to use IC Fantasia Gel. It  is cheap and affordable and it defines my curls like no other.  I’ve also used Miss Jessies from the Curly Meringue to the Curly Stretchy Creme to the Curly Pudding.  All of the products work but the IC gel is just as good.

The products listed above were my staples for 2009. Let’s help Faye Mac get off to good start as a Natural Newbie.  If you are natural what products are you using for your hair?
