My Precious Penny

I believe that I mentioned to you all that the hubs and I got a puppy just before Christmas.  I love my little Pooch, but I must admit that it has taken some time to get used to her.  I used to be terribly afraid of dogs – big or small so none of my friends can believe that I own one now.

Penny is a  7-month old dachshund mix. She was adopted from the Atlanta Pet Rescue and came with all of her shots, a micro-chip and she was even spayed.  We are not sure what she’s mixed with, but doxie is definitely the dominant gene.  She is truly a wiener dog – long, floppy ears, stinky breath, etc.

Penny loves to sit on a chair and look out the window while mommy and daddy are on the computer.  She is just as content as she wants to be.  Penny is quite the wanderer so we have to keep doors closed in our home.  Today we had to buy a baby gate to keep her away from certain areas of the house without supervision.

As you can see  I am clearly enjoying my furry child as I just sat here and wrote a whole post about her.  She gets a lot of love from her family and even our friends.  She likes visitors, maybe not other dogs, but human visitors are okay.

I look forward to giving you updates on our little pooch princess.

Merry Christmas

I wanted to take the time to wish all of you a Merry Christmas!!!!  I hope that each and every one of you receive all of your heart’s desires.   Thanks so much for your love and support.   Posts will be minimal for the remainder of the month as I am taking some time off and hopefully you will too.

This Christmas will be local.  No traveling for us.  We will make our rounds and come back home to spend time with our new puppy. Next week we will relax and I will try to organize a closet or something.

What are your plans for the holidays?

Community: Give an Extra Hand

One of my dear friends, Shay Hampton,  has started a gift giving project called “An Extra Hand.”  This is a great and  inexpensive way to give back to the community.  The main purpose of this project is to give items that are often overlooked as gifts but are desperately needed by women who are financially challenged.

The PeachPost asks you to give an extra hand and donate 1 complete list below and place all items in a gift basket. A small laundry basket or cute tote bag will be fine.

The goal for the project this year is to donate 50 baskets to mothers deserving an extra hand. Baskets are needed by Wednesday, Dec 16.  The PeachPost will coordinate the pick up with you personally but you have to let us know of your commitment to  participate. Remember to keep your receipts as your donation is tax deductible.

The items needed are listed below.  Please let us know if you would like to participate by emailing peachpost (at) gmail (dot) com or call 404.585.0955 for more information.

Local Teen Gives Back on Her Birthday

The PeachPost catches up with local Atlanta area teen,  Madison Kilpatrick,  who pays it forward on her birthday.  She’s a very sweet young lady who gives us a great example of giving during this holiday season.

P: I hear that you have special plans for your birthday.  Tell us what you are doing.

MK: My special plan for my birthday is my using my birthday party as a way to help the less fortunate. Every guest invited to my birthday party is asked to bring a toy which will be donated to Toys for Tots instead of bringing a birthday gift. Its my 14th birthday and I figured I should do something different and since my birthday is around Christmas, there really wasn’t any better way to spread the holiday cheer.

P: How would you encourage your peers to give back during this holiday season?

MK: Me and my friends are very driven. Most of us are filling out Magnet (School) applications in hopes to increase our chances of getting into college. If you tell one of them that community service looks good on your college application, they’ll do it! A lot of them have done community service just for their application, and then they continued because they just enjoyed it.

P: What is the number one thing that you plan to do during holiday break?

MK: During holiday break, its really all about the family. Its when everyone gets along even for that short period of time, they gather together, and everyone is just so much happier. Its actually my favorite time of the year.

P: What is your favorite radio station?

MK: My favorite radio station is probably a tie between Star94 and Q100. They play the same general type of music, so I like both of them equally.

P: Where is your favorite place to shop?

MK: My favorite place to shop, hands down, would be American Eagle. They have the best clothes there!

P: If you could have one wish for your birthday, what would it be?

MK:  Honestly, if I could have one wish for my birthday I wish for the texting. I still don’t have it and I want it so bad! But if my mom doesn’t get it for me, I’m sure there is a reason.

Thanks Madison, for sharing with us.  We at The PeachPost wish you a very happy birthday.
