Fashion Friday

dress code

dress code by Justyna.B featuring Jeffrey Campbell shoes

I chose this set because it’s so classic. Pleats are back in and you can never go wrong with a crisp white shirt.
To get some of the items for a lower price check it out:

  • Pleated Skirt at Land’s End – $35
  • Wrap Front Shirt at JC Penney – $14.99
  • Red Suede Flats at Zappos – $59
  • Tote Bag (3 ways to wear it) – $58

Chances are that you already have enough in your closet to complete a set like this. All you have to do is purchase 1-2 items max. Shopping in your own closet is key when you want to save money.

Saving Money – Living Within Your Means

Living within your means does not mean that you have to give up the nice things that you enjoy so much. It just means that you look for alternative ways to enjoy those things. For instance, I used to spend a monthly fee to listen to music on Rhapsody, but then I found Imeem and DADA where listening to music is absolutely free. I am saving money but still enjoying something that I like to do.

Take advantage of the rewards programs that are offered by various stores. You will be surprised at what you can get for free or at discounted prices. You save a lot of money at grocery stores and drug stores with reward cards.

If you like renting movies, try Redbox, which can be found at your local Wal-Greens, Wal-Mart or McDonalds. Read my post here about saving money with Redbox.

A lot of people have expensive habits such as smoking and drinking. Giving up those things can save you so much money. You can also learn to do things on your own – if you like desserts, try your hand at baking. If you like giving gifts, tap in to your creative side and make handmade items for others.

Finding alternative ways to do things isn’t a bad idea. Just find a new way and do it, then sit back and look at all the money that you have saved.

Money Saving Substitutes

Last week I mentioned that I substitute cotton cloths for paper towels. Here are a few more that I found:

Vinegar for Windex – This is a great alternative as the vinegar doesn’t streak at all. Actually you can use vinegar to clean a number of things.

Baking Soda + Vinegar for Drain Cleaner – It works wonders. You can also use the same solution to clean your toilet. Take about a 1/4 of Baking Soda, then use 1/2 cup of vinegar. Cover the drain and wait 15 minutes. Pour a gallon of water down the drain and it should be clear.

For more alternatives, check out The Simple Dollar.

Wedding Shower Gifts

I just recently attended a bridal shower for a dear friend. I must admit that I had the hardest time trying to come up with a gift for her. I ended up buying her a cute night gown and a tank top (with iron on letters of her new last name). It looked very similar to the tank pictured above, except I used cute little iron letters that looked like Polka dots. I have to say that I was so proud of my gift because I got a little creative and did something on my own. Most of all, there was no other gift like it.
